- The Easybeats two-part biopic “Friday on My Mind” has just re-screened again on the ABC and it was a faithful rendering of the story of the band from their humble beginnings in a Sydney migrant hostel along their ultimate path to international success. There are of course untold stories behind the recording of their famous song and the dynamics within the group at that time, this week’s APRA’S Best Songs reveals all the heartache, grief and tragedy that formed the backdrop to the recording of this most iconic of Australian songs.
- Hunters and Collectors frontman Mark Seymour has written six song for a new play, Lamb, which recently opened at the Red Stitch Actors Theatre in St. Kilda. Seymour collaborated with playwright Jane Bodie and conceived the songs around his childhood memories gleaned from reading his father’s diary and following the death of his mother. Our Special Feature this week profiles the famous Hunters and Collectors song Throw Your Arms Around Me from 1984.
- You Am I, supported by keyboardist James Black and the Wolfgram Sisters are currently touring with 1960’s rock and soul legend P.P. Arnold, she of the luminous re-interpretation of Cat Steven’s The First Cut is the Deepest and her soulful “duet” with Steve Marriott on the mod rock classic Tin Soldier, tour ends on December 15th at Melbourne’s Atheneum Theatre.
