  • Jimmy wasn’t the only performer to jump on the surfing boardwagon in the 1960’s, it was an international music genre originating on the Californian west coast, and in an extended Years Ago section this week we remember others who rode the crest of a surfing wave of success here in Australia – Little Pattie, the Delltones, Digger Revell and even Sir Robert Helpmann! In a future edition of 4TR we will explore the fascinating back story to the creation of Australia’s most famous surf rock song – Bombora by the Atlantics.

  • Rick Springfield was a very successful performer in the USA throughout the power pop era in the 1980’s, taking no less than six songs into the US top ten in that decade. Because he relocated to the States very early in his career in 1971, we tend to forget that he was a local, who sold over 17 million records throughout his career and has starred in popular TV series and movies – this week in our Special Feature,we revisit his first US and Australian #1 hit – Jessie’s Girl.
