• We continue our journey through Ausmusic today as we re-visit several early hits from Sydney’s quirky five-piece Mental as Anything, a band blessed with two singer/songwriters in Martin Plaza and Greedy Smith  who literally tore up the charts in the 1980’s with such left-of-centre original compositions as The Nips are Getting Bigger,  If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too, and Too Many Times – they are our ARIA Hall of Fame Inductees this week.

  • James Roche and Tania Doko were the duo Bachelor Girl who literally came from nowhere in 1999 to hit the charts and take out the APRA Award for Song of the Year with the love-is-a disaster epic Buses and Trains .

  • Just a reminder that 4 The Record will be on sabbatical from May 13- 31 and travelling overseas, so there will be no posts during this period, but we look forward to returning with more Ausmusic on Tuesday June 4th, with our special focus on the songs of those who have come to prominence through the   TV talent show phenomena – Tina Arena, Debra Byrne, Guy Sebastian, Shannon Noll and Bardot. In the interim please let me know if there are Australian performers/songs that you would like to see featured in future editions of 4TR.
